Jane has many years' experience in technical publishing. She joined Technews in 1985 and has worked in several departments within the company — production, circulation and sales — gaining an in-depth understanding of publishing effective trade journals. Most importantly, she was the personal assistant to the founder of Technews, Ray Beaumont, a doyen of publishing in his time. Ray relied on Jane for all his communication with clients and readers, and one can say she earned a MA in publishing through this role.

Jane took over the business management and sales of SA Instrumentation and Control in 2000 and Motion Control in 2005 when the title was purchased. She has led her team to build these publications into the pre-eminent publications in their sectors, highly regarded by readers and advertisers alike. A further endorsement of Jane's knowledge of the control and automation industry is her work with the Society for Automation, Instrumentation, Measurement & Control (SAIMC), both on a national and Durban branch level.
